Hooray – It’s Gin Friday – Week 7!

As an outside catering and events company, we have a keen interest in current trends, and we’re not adverse to a tipple or two.  We are always on the look out for new products and ingredients to create that perfect wedding welcome cocktail, or party starter.  To that end, we thought we’d combine our love of all things alcoholic with a bit of background on one of our favourite drinks du jour: gin.  Every Friday we will pick one of our personal picks from our own range, and tell the world about it.

So, this week’s Gin of The Week (#gotw) is Hendrick’s.

Launched in 1999, Hendrick’s  is distilled in batches using juniper, coriander seeds, angelica, camomile, yarrow, lemon peel, orange peel, orris root, elderflower, caraway seeds and cubeb berries as its botanicals.  These are then infused with 2 other elements; rose water and cucumber. This makes for a unique, tasty and incredibly refreshing gin.

Trying Hendrick’s neat treats you to a floral bouquet of flavours not dissimilar to Turkish Delight.  It is not heavy on either juniper or alcohol, and this is probably why it appeals to people who think they do not like gin.

A sweeter/more delicately flavoured tonic is of benefit here so as not to dominate the gin with the bitter quinine; Fever Tree works really well, and even Fever Tree Mediterranean adds another, floral note to it.

Garnishing with cucumber accentuates the cucumber hints detected on tasting, although lime is also a popular garnish, which adds more depth.

Whether you love gin or loathe it – this one is well worth sampling, as a very different offering to so many others.  Cheers!

Cheers! #gotw
